Sheffield Wednesday: Howard has Owls on up
Despite losing just four out of their last 18 league
matches, Dave Jones troops remain embroiled in the fight to stay in the
Championship.
But Howard, who made his debut in the Easter Monday draw with bottom-of-the-table Bristol City, is convinced Wednesday will win their survival battle.
“I believe we can stay up,” said the striker, who is on loan from Hartlepool United until the end of the season. “Without a shadow of a doubt.
“The squad is good. There are a great set of lads at this club and they are all fighting. There is a ‘never say die’ attitude here. We played some good stuff at Bristol City so hopefully we will be alright.”
A controversial injury-time strike from Sam Baldock at Ashton Gate stopped Wednesday from securing back-to-back victories over the Easter period.
Howard said: “It was very frustrating at Bristol. It almost felt like a loss. We got pipped at the end. We will be alright if we carry on playing like that.”
The 36-year-old was not involved in the South Yorkshire derby success over Barnsley, saying Jones always intended on him featuring against the lowly Robins.
“I thought I did okay; I was thrown in at the deep end,” he said. “I was told to go in there and do a job and win the flick ons and hopefully I did that. I was just disappointed we came away with just a point.”
