Wolves are delighted to have completed a deal to sign Sheffield United

midfielder Kevin McDonald.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract after completing a medical with Wolves paying the Blades an undisclosed fee for his services.

Born in Carnoustie, McDonald, a creative midfielder, began his career with Dundee and  attracted interest from Celtic before moving south to Burnley for £500,000 in November, 2008.

The Scotland Under 21 international penned a three year deal at Turf Moor and he played Barclays Premier League football for The Clarets making over 100 appearances for them. He also hit both goals in a 2-1 League Cup victory against Arsenal during his spell with Burnley.

Following relegation, he spent a short loan spell with Scunthorpe before a longer temporary stay with Notts County. His contract with Burnley expired in the summer of 2011 after which he signed a one-year deal with Sheffield United.

Kevin became a regular in the side but missed out on the play-off final defeat by Huddersfield because of injury. He signed a new two-year contract with The Blades at the end of the 2011/12 campaign. 

Head Coach Kenny Jackett is delighted Wolves have managed to land McDonald.

“At 24, Kevin has already had good experience at both Burnley and Sheffield United, but is also a player with his best years ahead of him,” said Jackett.

“He is a ball-playing midfielder who is composed in possession and I am very pleased that we have added him to the squad.

“He is my second signing since arriving at the club, and I feel that in that midfield area he will prove a crucial one.”

CEO Jez Moxey said:  “We have said we have been trying to bring in players to strengthen the squad and are pleased to have completed a deal for Kevin.

“He is a player with a good track record and more potential to come and will prove a valuable addition to the squad.”

Head of Football Development and Recruitment Kevin Thelwell said: “We are absolutely delighted to have signed a really good player.

“He has already shown he has got huge potential from his time in Scotland and his time in the Premier League with Burnley when he was excellent for large parts.

“He was also an integral part of what Sheffield United were doing last season at the top end of the division trying to get into the Championship.

“We have watched him many times and have been long-term admirers of him.

“He is still only 24, and we think with the coaching staff and facilities we’ve got here, and working under Kenny, we can get him to  a place where he is as good as he has ever been.”

McDonald is the second arrival for Wolves since Jackett became Head Coach, following on from the signing of club captain Sam Ricketts.
